Here's a little trivia, when the CMP first started getting carbines a few years back they were mostly worn out complete and partial rifles from South America. I also had a late Universal and it ran fine, but of course that one was way beyond being anything like a 'real' carbine. I spent a lot of time with an early Universal and found that one to function exactly like a GI. My personal clone favorites are the Alpines. Plus, it was just too 'pretty.' It was a good carbine clone and Plainfield did have the police market for a while with their offerings, including M2 models, which says something for them. But I was into collecting the GI carbines at the time and maybe was just getting partial to the GI stuff. I got rid of it cause it just did not feel like a 'real' carbine. I felt mine was too 'tight' for battle type stuff, could not handle running dry or running dirty.
